r.c.m. (Rest, Chaos, Migration)
This is version of viewing the slide presentation of R.C.M. (Rest, Chaos, Migration), it is a separate from that of the gallery presentation. Within the gallery, the slide projections are played on physical projectors and are detached from each other. One slideshow is used to disrupt the reading of displayed images around it, breaking a narrative and reforming it with each new included image. The other projector is to be viewed through a wallpaper by way of rear projection. This comments on the duality of the wallpaper, how the wallpaper is a separate entity and changes the area it covers. By playing the projector behind a design a disruption is also caused between the wallpaper and the image. While the slide images are still visible through the printed imagery, they become blended with the wallpaper design.
Rest, Chaos, Migration is a narrative, as well as a timeline, based on the idea of pilgrimage and the western desire, the American Dream and standard people have embraced. How an individual searches for a form of stability and beauty, among havoc and impermanence.
Each slideshow is complied of 80 slide photographs, a mixture of appropriated and personal slides, for a total of 160 separate images.
With this alternative visual, I have placed the two slide shows next to each other for a dual reading. Images are read next to each other, building a relationship. As they play on a loop, an audio recording is placed on top. This recording was taken at a family gathering and touches on the tropes found in You smell like warm. Topics such as the California wildfires, security, and the idea of transience are included. The informal conversation also embraces the idea of coming together and the home: what is talked about in a home and the way a group of people with common regards speak with one another.
